What's different about pouring concrete in Falcon

Falcon and the eastern El Paso County corridor (Meridian Ranch, Woodmen Hills, Falcon Highlands, Saddlehorn) sit at roughly 6,800 feet on the Black Forest divide, with a soils profile dominated by expansive Pierre shale clay and Niobrara formation. The Colorado Geological Survey lists the entire eastern Falcon corridor as moderate-to-high expansive soil risk. Driveways and slab work without proper engineering routinely fail at year 8–12 instead of the 30+ they should.

For Falcon-area pours we standardize on 5-inch reinforced driveways minimum (with #4 rebar at 18" OC), 8"+ of compacted Class 6 base, isolation joints at every fixed object, and control joints sawcut within 12 hours of pour. The big production-builder driveways from 2005–2015 were almost universally 4" with mesh, that's why so many of the repair calls we get in Falcon today are from those exact subdivisions.
